This November 3-6 will see the Inaugural RS21 World Championship take place in Biograd Na Moru, Croatia. Registrations are coming in hot, and we look forward to welcoming teams worldwide to compete for the title RS21 World Champion.
We spoke to ITA 243 to find out more about the team and why they are hungry for the title.
“We are quite easy to be recognized, ITA 243, a yellow boat with a full yellow deck pad. We just finished the Italian Championship in second position and have sailed together during Act 4 in Malcesine and Act 5 of the Italian Championship in Puntaldia. The Caipirinha team owner Martin Reintjes, took part in 2021 Act 1 and Act 3 of the Italian Championship and Act 4 of the European Championship, winning all the events but with another tactician and a different main trimmer in Act 3. In 2022, on top of the events I already said, we took part in the Italian Class Act 2 in Sanremo with a different tactician finishing in second position.
The owner of our boat decided to move to this the RS21 Class after Covid and after 4 seasons of Melges 32 where we won two World Leagues and the World Championship. At this point, Team Caipirinha decided to stop the Melges project and put the boat on sale; we took part in the 2021 Italian Class Act 1 in Rimini just to sail a bit after Covid and thanks to the charter formula, we decided to do some of the events without having to buy a boat. We fell in love with the class and the job done by the Italian Class team so we decided to continue chartering for more events.
There isn’t a specific reason why we decided to sail on the RS21, but we prefer it compared to Melges 20 and J70 for an aesthetic reason.”
Entries are still coming in from Italy, France, Germany, Poland, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Australia and the United States, as well as the home nation, Croatia. The atmosphere is growing tense, don’t miss out.
