Clean Regattas is the world’s leading sustainability certification for all on-the-water, near-the-water, and water-loving events. Since the program’s inception in 2006, over 3,000 events have shown their commitments to sustainability by hosting Clean Regattas. This program has reached over 795,000 sailors and attendees in over 50 countries. Clean Regattas is a free, self-assessment tool with powerful resources and support that awards certification levels from Participant to Platinum.
The RS21 International Class Association represents high performance and fun. Responsible sailing is the foundation of the class; the keelboat is built out of recyclable PET bottles and designed to be stackable, so fewer vehicles drive to the event or fewer containers need to be shipped. It has an integrated electric drive by ePropulsion enabling RS21’s to leave dock and return to the marina quickly, silently and with fantastic manoeuvrability whilst saving toxins from entering the water.
On-site, the RS21 International Class respect the environment that we all love and they proactively do what they can to protect our playground. The International RS21 Class choose their venues based on quality racing using the newest technology or a proactive approach to do this as sustainably as possible. They partner with forward-thinking yacht clubs, like Biograd Na Moru, that can host sustainably conscious world-class events alongside spectacular socials with locally sourced food and drinks and vegetarian/vegan alternatives. Competitors were gifted a reusable dry bag at entry to promote the elimination of single-use items throughout the duration of the event and long into the future.
The inaugural RS21 World Championship were proud to use MarkSetBots with the vision to support fully remote regattas in the future. MarkSetBot buoys are self-propelled and use GPS technology to zero in on a specific location and hold position until you instruct them to move. With a user-friendly mobile interface, easy inflatable assembly, and effortless repositioning, they make precise race management in any condition simple with no complex equipment and limited volunteers. The buoys are fully electric and will run for an entire race day on a single charge. MarkSetBot reduces the fossil fuel-burning power boats needed to set a race course, eliminates seabed-destructive anchors and drastically decreases the number of people involved with regatta management.
